The mission of Play To Win is to motivate and prepare males in grades 9 to 12 to embrace a set of core values and understand the importance of 21st Century skills that will contribute to enriching their path in life to become productive citizens.
“Growing up in Camden, NJ I had to battle to beat the odds of becoming a statistic: incarcerated, dealing drugs, homeless or even dead. I am one of so many young men who desperately needed a person to give me encouragement and teach me that life is a challenge. Go after your dreams and you can win. My father was that
person for me. Now it’s time for me to help those young men who don’t have anyone like that. By founding Play To Win, I know that we will begin to bridge that gap and offer hope for a bright future"
Play To Win will provide services to male youth who primarily residing in single parent homes in the City of Camden demonstrating at risk behaviors. We will provide a year round program and a six week intensive summer program held on a college campus. The programming will teach students the 21st century skills,
create quality opportunities that relate the curriculum to real life and prepare these young men to become actively engaged in their community.
Our program design will include a mentor for each student internships, service learning projects, and leadership development. The goal of the Play To Win program is to increase the
graduation rates and help prevent young males from becoming incarcerated. We plan to instill in them the desire to become life-long learners and give each of them the tools to develop a ten year life plan that will demonstrate productive choices.
